Treatment Of Gum Diseases
Scaling procedure is recommended every 6 months in a patient who is not able to maintain oral hygiene. The clinic recommends supra gingival scaling in case of the deposits present only above the gum level and this can be achieved in 20 minute procedure using a ultrasonic instrument.
Generalised Scaling Procedure
If the deposits are sub gingival(below the gums), the procedure may require multiple visits as there might be profuse bleeding because of inflammation of the gums and bone loss.
TREATMENT OF GUM DISEASES
If the condition of deposits are not addressed at regular intervals, there will be severe damage to the underlying bone which can lead to periodontal pockets and food lodgement leading to decay of the adjacent teeth and infection. If there is severe bone loss a procedure called flap surgery is performed under anesthesia and the gum layer and the bone is cleaned using specialised instruments or using lasers. Also in some cases artificial bone grafts are used to make up for the amount of bone loss.
